Sunset Grove Dendritic Agate & Citrine Pendant

A one-of-a-kind natural dendritic agate pendant handcrafted in sterling silver with warm golden brass granule accents and a 4 mm natural Madeira citrine in a deep orange tone.
The dendritic agate has a warm orange background with naturally occurring dark formations that resemble delicate plant life. Lighter translucent areas near the top allow subtle light and reflection from the sterling silver backplate to glow through the stone.

THE STORY
The natural markings inside this stone immediately made me think of plant life silhouetted against the last warm light of the day. Dark dendritic branches rise through an orange and golden background, almost like a small landscape caught at sunset.
I paired the stone with a deep orange Madeira citrine to represent the setting sun, continuing the warmth of the landscape below. Small golden brass granules add another touch of warmth against the sterling silver.
Like many of the stones I’m drawn to, its character comes from what Mother Earth created inside it. I designed the setting around those markings rather than competing with them, allowing the natural landscape within the stone to remain the focus.
 
HOW NATURE MADE IT
Dendritic agate is completely natural. The delicate markings that resemble trees, ferns or plant life are not painted into the stone and are not fossilized plants. They form as minute particles of iron or manganese oxides create naturally branching patterns within the agate.
The artistry doesn’t end with nature. A skilled lapidary studies the rough stone and carefully chooses how to cut and shape it so that the most beautiful natural formations are revealed. Gem cutting often requires deliberately orienting the rough to make the most of its color, pattern and other characteristics.
Mother Earth creates the landscape; the lapidary reveals it, I design and make the jewelry around what is already there.
